The Link Trainer has full justification to be called "The Pilot-Maker" and the first flight simulator. Thanks to his invention in the late I920'S, Ed Link was able to develop safe and inexpensive methods of teaching man to use one of the relatively new techniques of the day, flying by instruments.
The original Link Trainer was a relatively simple device compared to modern simulators. However, it was a moving base trainer and could simulate the roll, pitch, or yaw of a real aircraft The Link Trainer was not a simulator in today's sense of the word. It did not resemble a particular aircraft or provide all mission phases experienced by a pilot; but it was a valuable step toward the more complex equipment which the engineers and astronauts use today in preparing for the space missions of tomorrow.
