Mark.IV Drift Sight
"Dead Reckoning" is a basic form of aircraft navigation which means that a pilot flies a compass course and allows for forecast cross-winds. A more accurate means of finding cross wind direction is to use a Drift Sight. The Sight works by aligning the datum lines in the sight with a fixed point on the ground. As the aircraft moves away from the point the angle of drift can be read from the scale. Donated by Mrs Pat Hutchison via Mr. Don Bell. |
